Laurel has recently unveiled new blown glass sculpture and black and white photography in an exhibition at the Dog River Coffee Shop in Hood River. Come Check it out. There are beautiful Super Icicles adorning the front window for winter. Beautiful glass and steel sculptures swimming across the walls. And dug from the archives are some of Laurel’s imaginistic black and white photography from the late 90′s.

Now this is something to check out. Laurel grew up doing photography, with her father being a film maker and photographer, at an early age she started taking and developing her own pictures in their home darkroom. This media was briefly embraced as a major in college where she did a fair amount of in dark room experimentation with multiple and reverse exposures along with using pieces of hot formed glass to create texture. What this body of work really gives us is a peak into Laurel’s vision and beliefs as an artist. Presently well known for her blown glass, architectural art, and commissioned sculpture, Laurel struggles to have time for what is truly most important to her. This is her personal work revolving around the feminine, nature, and our relationships with the world. These simple yet emotionally and visually charged images express her core fundamentals. She is thrilled to share this with the community. She looks forward to your feedback.

She’ll be sure to post some of the images for those of you interested but not in the area.

Well Hops fest was a blast! Record numbers came out to enjoy beer, bands, and local cuisine. We met a lot of great people and will surely be seeing some of you at the studio for classes, gifts, and blow your own. Thanks to those that found something nice to take home. You made our day! And thanks to my great staff and friends for a quick breakdown so we could enjoy the night.

Glassometry Studios prides itself in being a place of constant creative change with an interest in sharing our art and education with the community. Expect rotating exhibitions in the gallery and events quarterly that revolve around holidays or the seasonal changes. We love to throw parties so be sure to get on the email list to be invited.

Grand Opening, November 6 2010

After a year of construction and planning, Glassometry Studios opened its doors to the public on November 6, 2010. The open house ran from 11-6pm and had a steady stream of interested people who enjoyed a gallery of art to explore, food and wine to partake in, and educational glass blowing demos to watch. We couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable day. The crew of volunteers worked into the night and we were all rewarded with a wonderfully relaxed opening. Thank you to all of you that helped make that day so rewarding.

“Blow Your Own Ornament” in Partnership with the Columbia Center for the Arts

Only weeks later, Glassometry Studios partnered with the Columbia Center for the Arts to host a holiday “Blow Your Own Ornament” Event. A portion of the proceeds from ornament sales went to the Columbia Arts. We had a wonderful time with families, couples, and friends who had the opportunity to not only make beautiful Christmas presents, but also get their hands on the glass. Individuals were able to make two kinds of ornaments and frequently made it a family outing. The enthusiasm and positive cheer made the events rewarding for us as well as those participating. We look forward to next year when we get to meet more of our neighbors for the holidays.

“Love Your Life”

Valentine’s Event Feb 12, 2011 6-10pm

With a turn out of apx 100 people, Glassometry Studios celebrated its daily ideals of “Loving Your Life” by sharing music, food, wine, dance, art, and the process of glass blowing with the party attendees. With the studio decorated and lit by candles and fire, the night exuded romance, creativity, no to mention down right sexy industrialism. Laurel and her team, dressed to the nines, performed hot glass demons by the dim light of the fire they were working with the sound of acoustic jazz in the background.

Over 100 people joined us for a candle lit evening of live music, desserts, art, wine, belly dancing, and hot glass demonstrations. It was a wonderful evening bursting with creativity and people sharing in the romance.

“Blossom Fest BBQ”

April 16-17 we had a great time celebrating “Blossom Fest” by having an Open House. We blew glass all day for people to watch, served BBQ, beer, and wine. We had seating for everyone to get comfortable for the demos and eating. At least 300 people come through the gallery and studio that weekend and we all had a great time.

Mystery Tour with Community Ed

In April we were the destination for the Community Ed Mystery Tour. We had a group of 15 or more senior citizens along with John Rust and Cindy Williams come for a tour. We led them through the different departments explaining the different processes. Lunch from Saw Tooth Roadhouse was enjoyed while we created several blown glass works of art before them. We all had a great time sharing. Thank you Ruth for the book!

If you would like to plan an event or outing to the studio, even participate in making some of your own art glass, feel free to contact us and we are happy to be helpful.

“Blow Your Own Ornament” in Partnership with the Columbia Center for the Arts
Wednesday December 7 (11am-8pm)
Saturday December 10 (10am-2pm)

Its another beautiful holiday season in Hood River, Oregon bringing the great opportunity to partner with our very own Columbia Center for the Arts. We are excited to offer two days especially set aside for supporters of the Arts Center, to come to the studio to blow your own ornaments for the upcoming holidays. This year we offer a wide variety of colors and several shapes. With hot cocoa, goodies, and warm faces, families can make appointments through the Columbia Center for the Arts for their time slot. Each ornament is engraved and comes in a lovely gift box for under the tree. Feel free to call or email us with any questions, and if you can’t make it for one of the appointed Arts Center dates but still want some of your proceeds to go to the Center, just let us know when you come in for another time to create your own ornament and we’ll be happy to pass this on.

Last year we had a wonderful time with families, couples, and friends who had the opportunity to not only make beautiful Christmas presents, but also get their hands on the glass. We recommend this activity for ages 6 and up. Younger children may participate with the help of a parent or sibling.
